Gold is one of the classic zakatable assets. The calculation takes three steps: value the gold, check it against the nisab, and take 2.5%.
1. Value your gold
Find the weight of pure gold you own. For jewellery, the purity matters: 24 karat is almost pure, 22 karat is about 91.7% gold, 18 karat is 75%. Multiply the pure gold weight by today's price per gram in your currency.
2. Check the nisab
If gold is your only zakatable asset, the gold nisab is 85 grams. If you also hold cash, investments or other assets, many scholars add them together and compare the total with a nisab; the silver nisab (595 grams) is lower and is recommended by many for that reason.
3. Pay 2.5%

Jewellery you wear
Scholars differ on jewellery worn regularly. The Hanafi school includes it in zakatable wealth; many scholars of other schools exempt normal personal jewellery. Jewellery kept as savings or investment is zakatable in all views. Follow the guidance you trust, and apply it consistently each year.
Tip: Weigh and record your gold once, then just update the price each year. The Zakat Calculator takes the value in any currency.
