Payment terms tell a client how long they have to pay. "Net 30" means the full amount is due 30 days after the invoice date. This calculator turns any common term into an exact calendar date, so you can put a clear due date on the invoice and know when to send a reminder.

How it works

For Net terms, add the number of days to the invoice date, counting calendar days, not business days. An invoice dated 1 October on Net 30 is due on 31 October.

EOM means end of month: payment is due on the last day of the month the invoice is dated in. Net 30 EOM means 30 days after that month end, which gives clients more time on invoices sent early in a month.

2/10 Net 30 offers a 2% discount if the client pays within 10 days; otherwise the full amount is due in 30. The calculator shows the discount deadline and what the client would pay.

If a due date lands on a weekend, some businesses move it to the next Monday. Choose that option to match your terms. Public holidays vary by country, so check those yourself.

A worked example

You send a $2,000 invoice dated Thursday 1 October 2026 on Net 30. It's due Saturday, 31 October 2026, giving the client 30 days. If your terms move weekend dates forward, the due date becomes Monday, 2 November. On 2/10 Net 30, the client could pay $1,960 by Sunday 11 October instead.

Questions people ask

What does Net 30 mean on an invoice?

The full invoice amount is due 30 calendar days after the invoice date. It's the most common business-to-business payment term. Always print the actual due date too, since "Net 30" alone leaves room for argument.

Does Net 30 count weekends and holidays?

Yes. Net terms count calendar days, including weekends and public holidays. If the last day falls on a weekend, whether payment can arrive on the next business day depends on your contract.

What does 2/10 Net 30 mean?

The client can take a 2% discount if they pay within 10 days; otherwise the full amount is due within 30. It's a way to get paid faster, but on a yearly basis that discount is expensive for you, so offer it only when cash flow matters most.

Which payment terms should a freelancer use?

Shorter is better for cash flow. Many freelancers use Net 7 or Net 14 for new clients and accept Net 30 for established companies whose accounts department works that way. Large companies sometimes insist on Net 60 or longer, so price that in.

What can I do when an invoice goes past its due date?

Send a polite reminder right away, then a firmer one after a week. If your terms allow it, charge late payment interest; the Late Payment Interest Calculator works out the exact amount.
