Google Play Cuts Its Service Fee to 10% and Splits Out a 5% Billing Fee

Google Play has separated its commission into two parts: a service fee for distribution and a billing fee for payment processing. The change took effect on June 30, 2026 in the United States, the United Kingdom and the European Economic Area, and more regions follow on a published schedule.

The new fees

  • Service fee: 10% on a developer's first $1 million (USD) of annual earnings, whichever billing method is used.
  • The same 10% service fee applies to all auto-renewing subscriptions, at any revenue level.
  • Other purchases above $1 million: 20% for users who installed on or after the launch date in their region, 25% for earlier installs.
  • Billing fee: 5% in the US, UK and EEA, only when the purchase uses Google Play's billing system. Alternative billing and external web links avoid it.

What changes for a subscription app

A subscription sold through Google Play Billing pays the 10% service fee plus the 5% billing fee: 15% in total, the same effective rate subscriptions have paid since 2022. The saving appears when you move payment to your own billing or a web checkout. Google's share falls to 10%, and your payment processor takes its own fee, often around 3%.

New programs from September 30

The new Apps Experience program and the revamped Games Level Up program offer reduced rate cards to apps and games that meet their requirements, starting September 30, 2026. Google says qualifying developers pay lower rates on transactions above the $1 million threshold.

Rollout outside the US, UK and EEA

Google is rolling the new structure out region by region. Industry trackers report Australia on September 30, 2026, Japan and South Korea on December 31, 2026, and the rest of the world on September 30, 2027. Check the Play Console Help Center for your region before changing prices.

Tip: In the App Store Fee Calculator, enter 15 as a custom rate for Google Play Billing on a subscription, or 10 to see what Google keeps when you use a web link.
